Jobs
We're looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead the engineering team responsible for Amazon's General Ledger (GL) platform — a mission-critical financial system that accurately accounts for approximately 900 million transactions per month across the entire company. This is your opportunity to be at the center stage of a financial transformation, building an autonomous, AI-enabled close orchestration system that redefines how Amazon closes its books every month.
You'll lead a cross-functional team of software engineers and application analysts building sophisticated, high-impact automation systems that create significant financial impact and enable our Finance and Global Business Services (FGBS) customers. Your team's work spans the full lifecycle — from sub-ledger integrations and journal processing to general ledger close orchestration — owning the end-to-end touchless Accounting Close Experience.
You will operate with significant autonomy to define technical strategy, make architectural decisions, and build solutions at the intersection of finance and technology. You will be challenged to incrementally build a touchless, self-healing close process that reduces manual touchpoints, eliminates ambiguity around data integrity, and delivers high confidence in Amazon's financial numbers at scale.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in building large-scale distributed systems, a strong background in financial or ERP platforms, and a proven ability to drive AI and automation initiatives from concept to production. You thrive in environments where both the business problem and the technology approach require invention, and you work backwards from customer needs to define what needs to be built. You'll partner closely with finance, controllership, and technology stakeholders to deliver solutions that elevate the close experience across Amazon's global finance organization.
If you're energized by the challenge of building AI-powered financial systems that operate at massive scale, and want to lead a team that's defining the future of autonomous financial close at Amazon, we want to hear from you.
- Key job responsibilities
- Lead architecture, design, and delivery of GL automation systems and AI-enabled close orchestration tools, making technical decisions that balance innovation with long-term scalability
- Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for your team, working backwards from FGBS customer needs
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of software engineers and application analysts, fostering a culture of automation-first thinking and technical excellence
- Own operational metrics and system health for GL close systems, establishing mechanisms to monitor progress and drive continuous improvement
- Partner with product and customer teams to translate complex accounting requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Recruit, hire, and develop top engineering talent, creating clear career paths and providing coaching that helps your team grow
- Champion automation and rapid iteration, continuously eliminating manual touchpoints from the close process to shorten Amazon's financial close timeline
About the team
The GL Close Orchestration Team, known internally as PILOT, is a dynamic, India-based engineering team at the heart of Amazon's financial close operations. We are the custodians of Amazon's Oracle Financial Applications (OFA) General Ledger (GL) Module and own the end-to-end orchestration of Amazon's month-end close — one of the most complex and high-stakes financial processes in the company.
Our team is responsible for the timely and accurate closure of sub-ledgers and the General Ledger, ensuring that approximately 900 million transactions per month are accounted for with precision. We own critical GL functions including ledger setups, posting schedules, journal reversals, and recurring schedules — the foundational building blocks that keep Amazon's financial engine running smoothly.
What sets us apart is our relentless drive toward automation and innovation. We continuously build intelligent automations tailored to Amazon-specific use cases — that progressively eliminate manual touchpoints from the close process. Our goal is a fully touchless, self-healing close — and every sprint brings us closer to that vision.
