Are you looking for a new challenge in a fast-paced, innovative company? Come make history with Amazon's Brazil team! We are seeking a strategic and business-savvy Credit Risk Principal to drive our credit initiatives in Brazil and create access to affordable payment methods. You will own the vision and roadmap to scale our digital credit products, working with global teams to support launches and management of new products.
The ideal candidate possesses strong credit risk management experience, deep understanding of Brazil's Payments and financial products competitive landscape, and a proven track record leading large-scale projects. You must be able to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities when scaling a business in a new geography.

  • Key job responsibilities
  • Own and drive the end-to-end credit risk strategy, balancing growth, profitability, and loss mitigation across products and customer segments.
  • Define and evolve credit risk frameworks, including underwriting policies, risk appetite, decision rules, and governance models.
  • Lead the fraud & abuse strategy, partnering with Fraud, Trust & Safety teams to prevent first-party misuse, synthetic identity, and emerging fraud patterns.
  • Design and optimize collections and recovery strategies, including segmentation, treatment paths, vendor strategy, and in-house vs. outsourced models.
  • Develop and monitor risk KPIs and performance metrics (FPD, NPL, loss rates, recovery curves, fraud loss, customer friction).
  • Partner closely with Product, Data Science, Engineering, Finance and Legal/Compliance to embed risk controls into customer journeys and system design.
  • Drive data-driven decision-making, leveraging advanced analytics, experimentation, and predictive models to continuously improve risk outcomes.
  • Identify and assess new risk vectors related to product launches, policy changes, or market expansion, proposing scalable mitigation strategies.
  • Influence senior leadership and stakeholders through clear narratives, trade-off analysis and risk-return recommendations.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in credit risk and setting best practices across the organization.
  • Support regulatory, audit and internal review processes, ensuring compliance with local and global risk requirements.
    About the team
    Brazil Payments is part of the International Emerging Stores Payments team and focuses on supporting the launch of new payment and financial products to our customers in Brazil.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience in communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal in Portuguese & English
  • Solid experience in compliance, audit or risk management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or MBA in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field
  • Deep expertise in credit underwriting, collections strategy and fraud prevention across consumer lending products in Latin American markets, particularly Brazil.
  • Proven track record designing and implementing credit risk frameworks that balanced growth targets with loss mitigation in high-growth environments.
  • Experience in credit risk management
  • Experience in a leadership role within financial services, fintech, or payments industry.
