Job Description:

LOCATION: Filton (60% of your working week must be office based)TYPE: Full time

The Electromagnetic Hazards (EMH) Lightning Direct Effects team offers a rare opportunity to operate at the intersection of cutting-edge innovation and critical aircraft safety. As we pivot toward the next generation of electrified and green aviation, our team is instrumental in redefining system architectures to withstand the atmospheric challenges of tomorrow. You will be part of a highly specialized, multicultural collective of engineers spanning four European nations, fostering a dynamic environment where continuous learning is not just encouraged—it is a daily reality.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM

  • Engineering Design & Integration: You will define and implement LDE and ESD requirements for new systems, directly influencing aircraft architectures and structures to achieve optimized, strike-resistant solutions.

  • End-to-End Testing & Analysis: You will be responsible for creating laboratory, ground, and flight test requests, followed by the rigorous analysis of test results to draw critical safety conclusions.

  • Certification & Airworthiness: You will identify applicable certification requirements and validate that all designs comply with strict airworthiness regulations throughout the certification process.

  • Strategic Oversight: You will define the work scope for internal and sub-contract partners, steering engineering activities and ensuring the delivery of mature, robust electrical architectures.

  • Hazard Mitigation: Your mission involves conducting deep-dive analyses of aircraft systems to protect against electromagnetic threats, specifically focusing on lightning attachment damage and fuel vapor ignition hazards.

ABOUT YOU:-
Engineering degree educated in aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, physics or similar educations required

  • Appreciation of Airframe Architecture

  • Strong electrical and physical understanding

  • interest in Lightning, Electromagnetic Hazards/Compatibility

  • Proven experience in aerospace environment
