Aircraft Paint Technician A

About the Role

Airbus Helicopters is looking for an Aircraft Paint Technician A to join our Dynamic Component Repair Team in Grand Prairie, TX. Technician shall prepare all components and airframe surfaces for painting and perform the painting of the components and airframes IAW Airbus manufacturer procedures.

Working Environment

A suburb just outside the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area is home to Airbus Helicopters U.S. regional headquarters, where we have more than 1,000 employees. Check out one of the seven professional sports teams that also call Dallas home - you may even see a special, custom Airbus helicopter dedicated to the Dallas Cowboys flying during home games.

Responsibilities

Paint Prep (40%)

  • Perform preparation for painting to include repairs, sanding, taping and surface preparation
  • Perform initial inspection of components and parts to ensure all defects are noted prior to painting
  • Perform stripe layout as specified by customer and masking per part drawing

Paint (40%)

  • Use a variety of standard and specialized hand tools, power equipment and measuring devices and test equipment
  • Assure that completed work complies with FAA regulations, customer requirements and company specifications
  • Refinish repaired components in accordance with customer and factory standards

Administrative and Training (20%)

  • Follow OSHA, safety and environmental regulations
  • Must be able to support and train other employees with technical knowledge and skills
  • Must maintain clean working environment

Qualifications

Education

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Some Trade School Experience

Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of Painting and Paint preparation on metal and composite/fiberglass components

Preferred:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of Painting and Paint preparation on metal and composite/fiberglass aircraft components

Licensure/Certifications

  • None required

Knowledge, Skills, and Demonstrated Capabilities

Required:

  • Strong paint skills
  • Previous Paint work
  • Able to read and work from blue prints and Bills of material (BOM) to ensure proper coatings are applied IAW Technical Data
  • Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages): Requires ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form

Additional Requirements

  • Authorized to Work in the US
  • No clearance required
  • Problem solving skills for Paint to ensure that they are accepted practices, of the highest quality, and cost effective for the customer
  • Travel Required: 10% Domestic and International

Physical Requirements

Onsite: 90%

  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings. Daily
  • Hearing: Able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms. Daily
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. Daily
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts. Daily
  • Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. Daily
  • Lifting: Able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. Daily
  • Pushing/Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. Daily
  • Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer. Daily
  • Squatting/Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. Daily
  • Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor. Daily
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. Daily
  • Travel: Able to travel independently and at short notice. Possible once or twice a year

Personal Protective Equipment

Required PPE includes, but is not limited to:

  • Safety Shoes
  • Safety Glasses
  • Hearing Protection
  • Respirators/Masks
  • Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

Administrative position only PPE required:

  • Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits
  • Appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor
