The Difference You Will Make:

• Tech-lead a high-performing team of software engineers to elevate the Open Search ecosystem at Airbnb, driving innovation and setting technical direction.

• Architect and build robust systems to enhance the reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of Open Search platform.

• Develop and maintain advanced tooling that streamlines the developer experience for all Open Search users across Airbnb.

• Actively contribute to the Open Search open source community, sharing insights and improvements.

• Mentor and guide team members, fostering their professional growth and technical excellence.

A Typical Day:

• Participate in design workshops focused on the vision and architecture of Airbnb’s next-generation Open Search platform.

• Dedicate substantial focus time to designing and implementing core Open Search components, leveraging cutting-edge large language models as collaborative tools.

• Hold regular 1:1 sessions with team members to provide coaching, direction, and support.

• Engage in in-person gatherings with fellow engineers and cross-functional partners to drive alignment and collaboration.

Your Expertise:

• Proficiency with Java for building scalable, maintainable systems

• BS, MS, PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.

• 9+ years of industry experience with a bachelor’s or master’s degree, and 6+ years with a PhD degree.

• Proven expertise with Elastic Search or Open Search in production environments.

• Demonstrated history of technical leadership, successfully guiding engineering teams to deliver impactful, high-quality solutions.

• Exceptional communication skills with a strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

• Professional proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
