The Community You Will Join:

The Cities Team at Airbnb is chartered with fostering sustainable global growth by developing the necessary software systems to enable Airbnb to work effectively with local governments. This involves designing systems that allow us to flexibly model the breadth of regulations around the world, deploy them safely and operationalize thousands around the world. At the same time, we are stewards of our global business and build systems to maximize growth and retention of global supply. Advocating for fair regulations is key, as it establishes a clear framework for Airbnb's continued growth and ensures continuous business expansion.

This is a highly collaborative team that works in close partnership with Operations, Product, Policy and legal functions around the company. In addition, you will be part of a global team with members in the US and India.

The Difference You Will Make:

As Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for building the tools and systems to scale regulatory launches worldwide with a focus on operational tooling and API integrations. You will be responsible for recruiting and building a team of top-notch engineers and building a culture of craftsmanship and excellence. You will represent your team with global leadership and be responsible for setting the long-term goals and strategy.

A Typical Day:

• Work closely with global stakeholders for alignment and shape strategies and technical directions.

• A typical day starts with a daily-standup, to get an accurate view of your team’s output, strengthen team communication and support managers, Tech Leads & engineers to do their tasks without any friction.

• Represent Cities team in various leadership meetings and similar forums.

• Finding ways to improve collaboration and communication for a strong team culture.

• Building a culture of Craftsmanship, where we are not only delivering on Business initiatives, but also take pride in the work and ship with confidence.

• If required, travel internationally to foster collaboration and accelerate projects.

• Strategising and brainstorming opportunities along with Product, Partnerships & other cross-functional leaders and driving effective relevant metrics to measure the success of these initiatives.

• Last, but not least, you’re likely to be the one responsible for recruiting the right engineers by improving and adding new initiatives for the overall India site culture.

Your expertise:

• BS, MS or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.

• 10+​ years of relevant engineering work experience and 4+ hands-on technical management experience.

• Strong coding abilities and experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications.

• Experience architecting, building, and maintaining highly available services in a large service-oriented architecture (SOA).

• Familiarity with patterns, libraries and frameworks for building and testing services, and service-to-service communication.

• Experience in partnering with other leaders in setting product strategy

• Successfully partnered with Operations, Policy, Legal, and Product functions

• Track record in partnering with recruiting to build incredible engineering teams

• Actively coached and mentored team members in their careers

• Consistently made culture choices that positively impact all of engineering
