Purpose:

The Senior Director, Global Training Strategy & Effectiveness is responsible for designing and executing a world-class global training program and organization within Operations globally. This leader will set the vision and framework to build an integrated and aligned training capability that transforms how Abb Vie trains Operations teams worldwide. The role works closely with executive stakeholders, cross-functional partners, and regional leaders to drive capability uplift, consistency, knowledge management, and strategic alignment in learning programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the vision and strategic framework for an integrated, global Operations training capability, partnering with regional Operations leaders and business unit heads worldwide.

  • Lead the design and deployment of global training initiatives, collaborating across Operations, and supporting functions to ensure alignment and scalability.

  • Oversee the launch and execution of major training programs and platforms, beginning with high-impact initiatives in Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain transformation.

  • Direct global training content development, delivery, and on-boarding programs, ensuring all Operations employees are equipped with robust and fit for purpose skills and knowledge to meet business objectives.

  • Establish and govern global policies and standards for Operations training; advise and support the creation of global training policies to ensure compliance and best practice adoption.

  • Evolve a strategy on digital learning platforms, supporting technologies, and advancing a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.

  • Develop and oversee reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for training effectiveness, working with global and local Operations leadership.

  • Serve as an expert advisor for resource alignment in training, supporting regional and local leaders with workforce development planning.

  • Collaborate with external subject matter experts to align training in support of innovation, operational excellence, and talent development.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree or professional certification preferred.

  • Experience: 10-15+ years of experience in training or related discipline in a regulated industry; at least 5–7 years of management experience leading global teams.

  • Deep, practical understanding of modern adult learning principles, digital, and blended learning methodologies, and thorough understanding of operational excellence principles.

  • Demonstrated success developing and delivering global training programs in a highly matrixed, multicultural environment.

  • Strong knowledge of compliance, quality, and regulatory requirements across Operations functions

  • Proven ability to build partnerships, lead through influence, and drive organizational change across regions and cultures.

  • Experience creating governance structures and KPIs to measure and enhance training impact.

  • Excellent communication, strategic planning, and leadership skills.
