Purpose Statement:
Bring impactful pharmaceutical products to customers as quickly and efficiently as possible via leading China Asset Strategy Team and working closely with regional and global teams to deliver the most competitive asset strategies
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Defines and execute China development strategy for assigned assets which contributes to sustainable, successful growth of Abb Vie pharma business.
- Ensures that the individual development asset add significant value to China pharma, through effective, rapid and broad development of pipeline assets, with adequate consideration of market potential and commercialization aspects.
- Ensures optimal performance of China Asset Strategy Team (C-AST) and deliverable teams by leading, driving and coordinating all development activities for China
- Foster continuous improvement mindset as one team from learnings throughout asset lifecycle
Role
Develop an integrated asset strategy for China.
- Creates the most competitive strategy based on unmet medical needs, market potential, regulatory requirements and operational feasibilities.
- Brings new products to the market through fastest and cost-effective approach.
- Provides inputs to global Asset Strategy Team (AST) ensuring China development strategy is integrated into the global development strategy.
- Ensures alignment on the program development strategies within China AST and with relevant stakeholders including China commercial, JAPAC, Intercon and global AST.
- Represents China AST at global ASTs and the appropriate decision bodies in China.
Lead the China Asset Strategy Team:
- Sets challenging individual asset-related objectives for and together with the team members to be considered in team member’s objective setting.
- Maintains motivation within the team: Foster ‘trust and transparency’ within the team in order to optimize team functioning.
- For asset-related activities, provides regular feedback to team member concerning their contribution to the team performance to target objectives.
Accountable for advancing assets with speed, quality and good control in budget.
- Defines and oversee development timelines and milestones in alignment with C-AST members, key stakeholders in China, JAPAC, Intercon and AST
- Drives and steers the implementation of the asset strategy in China, by leading C-AST and cooperating with ASTs.
- Proactively develops proposals to manage/mitigate/resolve risks for asset strategy and delivery in China.
- Empower China functional leads to be accountable and responsible for functional deliverables and deliver in an agile and operationally-efficient way for committed timelines and budgets in China.

Bachelor’s Degree required in life science area; Advanced degree highly preferred (e.g. PhD, MBA).

Relevant experience in drug development (minimum of 5 years; 10+ years preferred) in a pharmaceutical/biotech setting. Experience in certain therapeutic area is preferred based on the assets/indications being covered.

Strong strategic thinking, collaboration, facilitative leadership, executive function, and problem-solving skills. Ability to assimilate new knowledge rapidly and apply that to asset strategy.

Experience leading a team in a cross-functional environment. Ability to objectively exercise judgment and create pragmatic solutions to address complex cross-functional problems, and to be accountable for obtaining stakeholder advice to make informed decisions, in order to move a program forward in the face of uncertainty or incomplete data.

Ability to lead and motivate team members from across functional areas; must be able to lead through influence and bring out the best in others. Ability to delegate appropriate accountability and decision making to supporting teams and functions.

Ability and willingness to respectfully challenge team members and functions, and manage conflict, in order to assess fully all opportunities, options, risks, and mitigations.
