The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location within the GES Global Engineering Services Division.
As the Senior Principal Construction Engineer, you will lead large-scale facility expansion projects in a highly regulated environment. This role encompasses strategic planning, execution, and delivery of GMP-compliant capital projects including new builds, retrofits, and utility installations. The Project Manager will ensure alignment with regulatory standards, safety protocols, and business objectives while managing cross-functional teams and external contractors.
What You’ll Work On
- Lead planning and execution of complex facility expansion projects.
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Manage internal engineering teams and external service providers (design firms, contractors, suppliers).
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, and documentation to ensure timely and compliant delivery.
- Conduct constructability reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering.
- Ensure adherence to GMP, safety, and quality standards throughout project lifecycle.
- Support commissioning, qualification, and turnover of facilities.
- Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Drive continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives.
- Utilize tools such as MS Project, AutoCAD, SAP for project tracking and reporting.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- PMP Certification is a plus.
- 10 years of experience managing capital projects in regulated industries (medical device, nutrition, pharmaceutical).
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale projects (> $2.5MM).
- Strong understanding of GMP regulations, construction codes, and validation processes.
- Experience in contractor selection, procurement, and performance management.
- Willingness to travel 50–75% within the United States.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skill
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in MS Project, AutoCAD, SAP, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments.
