Job Description: Learning & Development Manager, APAC Commercial

Role Description

Drive the overall capability development for APAC commercial team by enabling a proactive development / learning culture. Implement the APAC learning strategy in alignment with commercial strategies, including developing regional training roadmaps in alignment with the regional commercial strategy and evolving market requirements. Implement a learning evaluation framework and supporting practices that link development to performance by using data and analytics to gain insights about capabilities, emerging development requirements, and measure learning effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Strategy & Needs Assessment:

  • Collaborate with Commercial Excellence to develop and implement the regional commercial learning strategy
  • Conduct learning needs assessments using performance and development data to identify competency gaps
  • Apply learning design principles and development frameworks (e.g., 70-20-10 model) to create impactful programs

Curriculum Development & Delivery:

  • Identify regional commercial competency requirements and enable delivery of learning curriculums and programs in partnership with Commercial Excellence and cross-functional leads
  • Design custom programs using fit-for-purpose learning methods for proactive and just-in-time training
  • Conduct training sessions and lead train-the-trainer programs to build internal capabilities across markets
  • Develop training materials and resources to support learning delivery and application, including to support on-the-job learning and application
  • Facilitate learning transfer, and build coaching competencies across the commercial team

Performance Gap Analysis & Solutions:

  • Work with Salesforce Effectiveness (SFE) and country trainers to analyze performance gaps and develop training and non-training solutions to build priority skills

Learning Thought-Leadership & Consultative Expertise:

  • Provide guidance to employees and people leaders on learning and development strategies
  • Build and implement tools and resources to support on-the-job learning, coaching, and application

Evaluation & Impact Measurement:

  • Implement a learning evaluation framework to measure effectiveness and business impact
  • Track and report learning outcomes via a regional dashboard, providing real-time insights into strengths & gaps

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Expand learning offerings with innovative methods and platforms
  • Use established evaluation criteria to select and assess learning partners, ensuring accountability and quality

Digital Learning Platform Leadership:

  • Work closely with Global and Regional teams to leverage the Allego training platform and serve as the master user for APAC, ensuring optimal utilization and adoption across markets

Product Knowledge Mastery:

  • Serve as the regional product knowledge expert, covering hardware, software, and digital systems, ensuring all training programs incorporate accurate, up-to-date product information and enabling teams to confidently communicate value propositions

Critical Experiences Required

  • Design and implementation of a training program that considered immediate and long-term development needs (includes needs assessment, curriculum design, delivery, evaluation)
  • Working with cross-functional partners to create, deliver, or adapt a learning intervention (includes engaging stakeholders, gathering feedback, and ensuring alignment with broader business goals)
  • Implement / support the use of new learning technologies or platforms to enhance the effectiveness of training programs (includes evaluating different options, integrating them into existing training frameworks / offerings, measuring their impact on learner engagement and performance)
  • Consulting with leaders at different levels to address / support development needs (e.g., advising on leadership development programs, coaching, and mentoring initiatives)
  • Experience influencing without authority to ensure the appropriate interventions are developed in alignment with strategic goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and above
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant commercial training experience, learning & development, or sales enablement preferably in Healthcare (Medical Devices/Pharmaceutical industry)
  • Professional certification in Training & Development (e.g., CPTD, ATD) is an advantage
  • Familiarity with clinical education, product training, and regulatory requirements in the medical device/pharmaceutical industry
  • Previous experience in sales management is a plus
  • Strong coaching and training skills, preferably with project management skills in rolling out regional initiatives
  • Proven track record in curriculum design, delivering training programs for diverse, multi-country commercial teams and knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Ability to analyze training needs and measure effectiveness using KPIs
  • Hands-on experience in leveraging technology and learning management systems (LMS) such as Allego
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence, lead, negotiate, and work effectively at all levels
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional stakeholders such as commercial and medical affairs
  • Strong language proficiency in English
  • Proficiency in a 2nd Asian language such as Mandarin, Japanese or Korean is a plus
  • Familiar with MS Office Suite of Products (PowerBI, MS Teams, Excel, PPT)
  • Travel up to 25%
