Abbott Established Pharmaceutical Division (EPD) is looking for a

Cloud Architect
for its global Pharma Division Headquarter based in Allschwil- Basel.

Primary Job Function: The AA team is on a mission to reshape the entire EPD division around data-driven decision-making.The Cloud Architect collaborates closely with our Data Science team and our product delivery team to make sure that the applications we deploy are built on scalable and robust technology stack. These solutions directly transform the way we produce market and sell our products around the world.

This role focuses on designing and implementing cloud architectures that run AI/GenAI applications in a scalable way across multiple platforms (mobile, web etc..) used by our stakeholders around the world. You help our Engineering team to streamline or automate cloud infrastructure deployment, to enable other development teams to develop and deploy faster focusing on the application core.

Core Job Responsibilities:

Cloud Solution Architecture:

  • Design and build, and maintain cloud architectures for scalable, robust AI/GenAI applications across platforms (web, mobile, desktop).

  • Leverage cloud-native services to ensure optimal performance, availability, security, and cost efficiency.

  • Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for latency, throughput, and cost efficiency, leveraging cloud-native monitoring and alerting tools.

  • Design and implement load balancing, auto-scaling, and failover strategies to guarantee high availability across all deployed applications.

  • Document reference architectures, technical roadmaps, and conduct design reviews with engineering and product teams.

Infrastructure as Code & Automation:

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) frameworks and automated workflows, making cloud deployment accessible to developers regardless of IaC expertise.

  • Implement robust monitoring, security guardrails, and compliance checks to ensure infrastructure changes are safe, reliable, and aligned with production standards.

Security, Compliance, and Reliability:

  • Champion secure cloud designs, ensuring compliance with data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements in coordination with our security team.

  • Establish observability, monitoring and disaster recovery mechanisms for all AI/GenAI workloads.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 8+ years of experience architecting and delivering cloud-native applications, including at least 3 years specializing in AI/ML or GenAI workloads.

  • Demonstrated experience with monitoring, optimizing, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency using modern observability tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog).

  • Expertise in AWS cloud services (e.g., ECS, EKS, Lambda, Sage Maker, S3, IAM, VPC, Cognito, Step Functions, CloudWatch)

  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Open Tofu) and modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, OPA, containerization with Docker/Kubernetes).

  • AWS Certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer etc..) a plus.

  • Full stack experience a plus.

  • Experience supporting global deployments of multi-platform applications (web, mobile, desktop) across geographies (CDN).

  • Proven communication skills. Fluency in English a must.

  • Passion for transforming organizations through large scale data
