This role sits within ABB's Robotics business, a leading global robotics company. We're entering an exciting new chapter as we’ve announced the plan for Soft Bank Group to acquire ABB Robotics. Key responsibilities
Interested in experiencing professional life within a globally-oriented, innovation-driven corporate research team? Become our intern (m/f/d) and get acquainted with an appropriate division for 3 to 6 months. You'll participate in extensive initiatives and carry out a specified range of responsibilities autonomously. Leverage your internship to establish connections and gain familiarity with our organization. Based on the candidate's capabilities and preferences, the subjects and assignments during an internship at ABB Robotics Research can be diverse
The work model for the role is: #
You will be mainly accountable for:

Human-Robot-Collaboration (HRC): Development & evaluation of new concepts incl. validation in a test-rig and/ or simulation for increased manufacturing flexibility and productivity.

Motion & Force CTRL: Development, evaluation and validation in simulation and/ or test-rig of new control concepts.

Machine learning: Investigating state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms for robotics, from simulation to real robots, in Python using Tensor Flow/Py Torch

Software development: Development & implementation of robotics software solutions in Visual Studio (C++, C#, JAVA) for intelligent robotics functionalities.

Mobile Robotics: Safety of industrial mobile robots (IMRs) related to hardware, communication and safety architecture.

AI for Robotics: wide array of applications, ranging from multi-modal AI architectures for robotics systems to integration of LLMs and computer vision models.

Qualifications for the role (Mandatory)- Ongoing Master program with focus on Robotics, Control Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or Automation Engineering

Depending on the subject area: Initial programming skills and experience in Matlab/ Simulink, python, C, C++ or C#; Physical understanding of sensors for environmental detection (radar, laser, vision): In-depth understanding of control engineering methods

Structured and goal-oriented way of working

Ability to solve problems efficiently in HW and SW

Fluent command of English (written and spoken). Knowledge of German is a plus.
