The ABB HR Experience Process, Data and Technology organization is dedicated to delivering a world-class HR experience. We develop and implement business-driven strategies, enhance HR systems, and work closely with the business to improve end-to-end HR processes, manage data, and oversee global platforms. This role reports to the Senior Technology Service Owner
The work model for the role is dependent on hiring location.
Role and Responsibilities:
The HRXP AI Architect will oversee the AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning) landscape within the organization, ensuring ongoing analysis of opportunities, delivery, smooth transitions and implementations, continuous improvement, and alignment with business strategy. This role will lead and support the design, take part in assessments, support in the implementation of solutions, facilitate technical decisions, provide subject matter expertise throughout the project lifecycle, and advise to the HRXP Leadership team on AI technology.
- Evangelizes and upskills the HRXP organization by organizing periodic AI forums/brown-bag sessions, demos, and knowledge shares; mentors practitioners; promotes adoption of best practices across the AI lifecycle.
- Leads AI market scouting and trend sensing by continuously assessing AI/ML trends (e.g., GenAI/LLMs, RAG, multimodal AI, MLOps, privacy-preserving AI) and advising where HRXP can benefit.
- Tailoring ABB AI direction and guardrails by co-defining the HRXP AI target state in terms of UX state, principles, and decision criteria (value, feasibility, risk, compliance, ethics, testing), ensuring alignment with HRXP and ABB strategies & roadmaps
- Shape the AI Architecture capabilities in HRXP under the supervision of HRXP Architecture team
- Evaluates and recommends Workday-native AI capabilities and ecosystem integrations, while also guiding AI options in non-Workday technologies.
- Facilitates architecture options and reviews by running governed discussions to compare solution paths; establish working framework on using AI for continuous improvement, provides architecture recommendations and risk/benefit trade-offs; ensures privacy, security, and compliance are addressed.
- Partners with Experience Leads, Application Owners, Architects, SMEs, and HRXP Leadership to shape the AI roadmap and sequencing; articulates expected outcomes and measures of success.
- Contributes to RFPs, leads vendor assessments, and Po Cs (and, where applicable, Proofs of Value) in the field of AI technology; supports solution teams during build and rollout without owning implementation or run.
- Collaborates with ABB AI communities outside HRXP; maintains relationships with consultancies, vendors, and other providers; attends select conferences to keep HRXP at the edge.
- Tracks AI usage, benefit realization, risks, and adherence to guardrails; feeds learnings back into standards, patterns, and the roadmap.
- Ensures holistic, enterprise-aware AI choices across HRXP, balancing innovation with sustainability, scalability, and interoperability; collaborates closely with the HRXP Domain Lead Architect.
Qualifications
- 3-4 years of hands-on AI/ML experience, including production deployments and end-to-end solution design and 5-7 years of programming
- Expert proficiency on AI topics. Examples: LLMs (Large Language Models), Diffusion models, MCP server, GenAI, cloud platforms, MLOps (Machine Learning Operations), RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and Python.
- Strong architectural skills for designing scalable, production-ready AI systems and data and training pipelines.
- Experience assessing Workday AI capabilities (Talent, Planning, Skills, etc.) and HR tech ecosystems; familiarity with APIs/integrations and data privacy/compliance in HR.
- Relevant education (CS/AI degree) and/or strong computer science interest.
- Experience with vendor ecosystems and managed services (incl. RFPs/RFIs, pilots/Po Cs, and vendor evaluation).
- Comfortable collaborating across global, cross-functional teams; effective at building internal/external networks (consultants, experts, communities).
- Nice to have: Workday and cloud AI certifications; publications, patents, or community contributions.
