Your role and responsibilities
As a Research Scientist, you will be working on sensing solutions for ABB’s next generation systems and products. We are looking for a team member with a proven research track record and the eagerness to transfer and apply world class academic research into an industrial environment. You will be mainly accountable for:

Contributing to and leading research projects in sensing and machine perception addressing the needs of our businesses, with applications including process automation, process industries, port automation, or maritime transport.

Together with multidisciplinary project teams, develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from the concept definition phase to the experimental verification

Evaluate new technologies and conduct technical surveys, generate project proposals with business impact and collaborate with researchers and engineers from other research centres, ABB business units, as well as from universities

Disseminate your results with scientific publications and internal technical reports, generate intellectual property
Qualifications for the role

PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or in a related field. Strong background in machine perception and computer vision

Expertise in any of the following fields is an advantage: machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, digital signal processing

Proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux ecosystem

Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software frameworks for cameras, LIDAR, or radar is a plus (e.g. OpenCV, ROS2)

Proven publication track record at top scientific conferences and journals

Team player attitude. Willingness to learn new industrial applications and work on a broad range of technologies.

Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
