This Position reports to:
R&D Team Lead:
Are you curious about advanced simulation and electromagnetic technology? At ABB Metallurgy, you will join an experienced and supportive R&D team where you can develop your expertise in electromagnetic modelling, design, and analysis. Together, we work on the next generation of electromagnetic stirrers for steel and aluminum production.
You will follow projects through the full chain from early simulations and design to testing and customer implementation. The work covers electromagnetics, CFD, thermal modelling, and metallurgy, a rare combination in one role. Many of our engineers grow into senior technical experts or project leaders through mentoring, training, and hands-on project work.
We welcome candidates who are eager to learn, explore, and contribute to meaningful innovation.
Your role and responsibilities

Model and simulate electromagnetic systems.

Design and analyze electromagnetic stirrers.

Develop calculation tools.
-
Contribute to publications and technical conferences.

Support technical development and take on more responsibility as your expertise grows.

Work with sales, engineering, customers, and collaboration partners.
Qualifications for the role
-
MSc or PhD in Electromagnetics or Physics, or other relevant post-university experience.

Preferably experience in electromagnetic analysis, electric machine design, process metallurgy, simulations, CFD, or modelling.

Knowledge of IP management is seen as an advantage.

Experience in the metal-making process is a plus.

Good spoken and written communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and a professional, “can-do” attitude.

Fluent in English; Swedish is a merit.

You work in a structured and thorough way. You take initiative and make sure to deliver high quality results on time.
More about us
ABB Metallurgy develops and delivers electromagnetic stirrers for steel and aluminum production. Our main customers are steel and aluminum plants. In our R&D team we work together using advanced calculation and multi-physics tools to demonstrate how electromagnetic stirring improves customer processes in metal production, such as melting and casting. We continuously improve and apply these models in customer projects to ensure performance and meet process improvement goals.
