Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to define and govern the enterprise-wide application architecture across ABB. Each day, you will be making sure that our application landscapes evolve coherently while enabling business units and product teams to retain autonomy in how they build and run applications. You will also be responsible for setting up enterprise guardrails, target states, and decision frameworks for application architecture, focusing on modularity, lifecycle management, interoperability, and alignment to business capabilities. This role has no direct reports.

You will be mainly accountable for:
- Directing the development of enterprise domain architecture and processes, to ensure that change is embedded in the organization management. This includes establishing guardrails for:
Application modularity and coupling

Buy vs build
-
SaaS vs custom development
-
Application lifecycle and decommissioning
-
Developing, enhancing, and maintaining ABB-wide architecture best practices, policies, standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure that a consistent technology framework is applied across ABB through your own area of responsibility.

Assessing the existing IT environment, developing a future state IT architecture, ensuring technology compatibility with existing solutions, infrastructure, services, and strategic direction, and overseeing architectural review of new designs and acting as the final escalation point for cross-domain or cross-portfolio application decisions.

Guiding enterprise application portfolio management in collaboration with business and IT representative and defining criteria for: application investment, modernization or replacement, decommissioning and consolidation.

Monitoring and reporting compliance level of the architecture landscape and flagging cross-ABB planning and road mapping implications.
Qualifications for the role
-
10+ years in application or enterprise architecture roles in large, decentralized, or federated organizations

Proven track record in application modernization and portfolio rationalization

Experience influencing architecture without direct delivery ownership

Expertise in application architecture patterns (monolith, microservices, modular monoliths), SaaS and COTS integration models, domain-led design and capability mapping application lifecycle management and hybrid and multi-cloud application environments

Strong architectural judgement and pragmatic decision-making

Ability to balance enterprise consistency with local set-up

Executive-level communication and storytelling

Comfortable in facilitating trade-offs across cost, speed, and risk
