Your role and responsibilities In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a production team within our manufacturing unit, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement. Each day, you will oversee production processes, manage resources, and ensure we transform raw materials into ABB products efficiently and safely. You will also showcase your expertise by leading by example and fostering a culture of data-driven management. The position requires flexibility to support a two-shift operation, with availability across extended production hours to ensure continuity, safety, and performance across shifts.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Leading and organising production teams to effectively meet line production targets

  • Ensuring production scheduling and plans align with demand requirements and inventory service levels

  • Managing equipment and facilities improvements while working with maintenance teams

  • Driving production execution to achieve volume, quality, and on-time delivery targets

  • Identifying operational improvements and overseeing implementation of performance enhancements

  • Resolving critical product or equipment issues in collaboration with internal teams

  • Leading, developing, and mentoring team members while ensuring proper staffing and performance management

  • Championing a strong safety-first culture, ensuring all team members go home safe every day

  • Building engagement and accountability across shifts, fostering trust, inclusion, and open communication

  • Leading change initiatives and supporting teams through continuous improvement and transformation

Our team dynamic is collaborative, with a focus on efficient problem-solving, continuous improvement, and maintaining the highest safety and quality standards to exceed production goals.

You will join a dynamic, high-performing leadership team, where you will be able to thrive and make a meaningful impact. The role operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with competing priorities, requiring strong decision-making, resilience, and the ability to balance people leadership with operational delivery.

This position reports to the Integrated Production Unit Leader.

Qualifications for the role

  • You are highly skilled in leadership and team management with strong supervisory and coaching abilities

  • Experience leading teams across multiple shifts or extended operating hours

  • Demonstrate established experience in motivating and leading teams with proven conflict resolution and performance management skills

  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems like SAP with strong data analysis and KPI reporting capabilities

  • Expert knowledge of workplace Health and Safety requirements in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in cross-functional collaboration

  • Proven ability in scheduling, prioritization, and resource allocation to meet customer demand

  • Leadership qualification, trade certificate, or relevant qualification preferred

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in a manufacturing or operational environment, with a strong understanding of production processes, workflow optimisation, and continuous improvement principles, exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is desirable but not essential.

  • At ease communicating complex technical and operational requirements in English

  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand, experience working within a New Zealand manufacturing environment is advantageous.
