This position reports to:
Procurement Manager
__
As the HPR Transformer Sourcing Manager, you take full responsibility for developing and coordinating all Supply Chain Management activities related to Supplier Development and Supplier Relationship Management across a global supply base for the delivery of HPR Transformers. To be successful, you bring strategic thinking, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to align global suppliers with complex project requirements in a dynamic international environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain the planning of our Global Transformer Supplier Portfolio in order to optimize delivery opportunities, competitiveness, risks, and overall performance for our HPR project offerings.
- Provide comprehensive supply market intelligence for transformers to support strategic decision-making.
- Drive supplier development activities to align with the target Transformer Supplier Portfolio, including identification, qualification, development, and de-sourcing where required.
- Negotiate and close frame agreements covering contractual, commercial, technical, and scheduling requirements to enable efficient RFQs and competitive project offerings.
- Manage supplier relationships with key sources to leverage ABB’s purchasing power and optimize commercial and technical offers.
- Forecast demand and ensure clear communication and coordination with suppliers, maintaining effective opportunity pipeline control.
- Collaborate closely with internal disciplines, specifically Engineering, Quality, and Sales, to ensure alignment and execution of the above tasks.
- Support local Sourcing Managers in compiling RFQ-related requirements and documentation, as well as supplier shortlisting, benchmarking, bid comparisons, negotiations, and award decisions.
- Collaborate with other ABB units, country organizations, Category Managers, and internal stakeholders to unlock and leverage synergies.
- Lead troubleshooting activities and manage claims in a structured and solution-oriented manner.
- Assist and provide consultancy to Sales, PMO, Engineering, and other functions in the selection and bidding of transformers and transformer-related packages.
- Deliver SCM-related training and coaching to Procurement and Logistics staff in local units and Local Engineering Centers (LECs).
Key requirements:
To be successful, you bring a degree in Engineering and/or Economics with a strong focus on global industrial or technical products and systems. You have more than five years of experience in strategic and operational Supply Chain Management or comparable commercial functions within a global project business and international environment. You are proficient in professional sourcing methodologies, tools, and best practices, and ideally have experience working with ERP systems.
An engineering background is highly valued, as you will work closely with equipment, technical functions and industrial topics, but being “just an engineer” is not sufficient. You must also bring proven experience in procurement, including supplier negotiations and contractual topics.
We are looking for somebody with a global mindset. Regional experience alone will not be enough. You should be comfortable operating across countries and cultures, understanding global markets and navigating complexity in an international environment.
From a personality perspective, you need to be proactive and willing to challenge the status quo. In this role, you will not simply follow processes; you are expected to question, improve and take initiative.
You communicate confidently and effectively, demonstrating strong moderation and negotiation skills. You are fluent in English; knowledge of German is an advantage, and additional languages further strengthen your international profile.
Building a cleaner, smarter future takes all kinds of minds: the curious, the courageous, and the creative. That's why we welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences.
