Your role and responsibilities

This is role you will be highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our Automotive Robot Automation team. This role involves leading the design and development of robotic automation systems for automotive BIW applications, while also supporting cross-functional collaboration across customer, supplier, and commissioning teams.

The work model for the role is #Li_onsite.

This role is contributing to the Robotics & Discrete Automation in Pune, India.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Lead the design and development of robotic automation systems for BIW applications including spot welding, arc welding, riveting, and material handling, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, and detailed design documentation using CAD tools such as CATIA, NX, or Solid Works, covering robotic cells, EOAT, fixtures, and safety systems.
  • Collaborate with simulation, controls, manufacturing, and installation teams to ensure design feasibility, integration, and on-site support during build, integration, and ramp-up phases.
  • Conduct design reviews, DFMEAs, and risk assessments while coordinating with customers to capture requirements, present design concepts, and address feedback throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage design schedules, resource planning, and coordination with third-party vendors and suppliers, ensuring timely design approvals and project execution.

Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or related engineering field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in BIW robotic automation design with in-depth knowledge of BIW processes, robotic integration, and global automotive OEM standards.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA V5/V6, NX, or equivalent, with thorough understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proven expertise in the design of BIW fixtures including spot welding jigs, arc welding fixtures, roller hemming fixtures, and related tooling.
  • Practical experience in concept design activities such as unit building, weld study, gun placement, layout study, cycle time study, and process study.
  • Experience with digital manufacturing and simulation tools such as Process Simulate or RobCAD, along with familiarity with Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing practices.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project coordination skills, with ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and with customers.
  • Willingness to travel for project execution, installation support, and customer interactions as required.
