The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

We are seeking a talented and driven engineer with a focus on consumer hardgoods to join the CBG Hardgoods team. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and bringing to market exciting and high-quality consumer products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of products that meet customer needs and exceed expectations.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Lead the mechanical design and development of consumer products, focused on hardgoods.
• Conduct feasibility studies, concept development, and prototyping to validate design ideas.
• Utilize CAD software (e.g., Solid Works) to create engineering drawings and specifications.
• Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis to ensure product performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless integration of mechanical components.
• Conduct testing and validation of prototypes to ensure product performance
• Identify and resolve design issues, technical support throughout the product lifecycle.
• Stay up-to-update with the latest trends and technologies in consumer product development.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
• Three (3) years of mechanical design and development of consumer products in a private, public, government or military environment
• Two (2) years if experience working with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works) for 3D modeling and drafting

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Experience in mechanical design and development of consumer products, with a focus on hardgoods.
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing).
• Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
• Strong knowledge of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work in cross-functional teams.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Work location:

• On-site: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Travel: May include up to 15%

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
