Job Summary

Job Specification – Senior Software Engineer – Database developer

As a Software Engineer within London Finance Transformation of Lloyds Banking Group you will serve as a senior member of an agile team implementing trusted, secure, stable products which service the needs of customers at an enterprise scale. You will be responsible for driving technical innovation within the group, collaborating across multiple technology hubs, and developing critical business solutions that support the groups objectives and values.

Key Responsibilities:

• Key point of contact for developers in the Lab for all technical questions.

• Lead the design and development of enterprise software solutions with an ability to think beyond conventional approaches when required.

• Ensuring the team produces high-quality, maintainable, and secure production code that can execute effectively in multi-tiered / batch environments.

• Comfortable technically troubleshooting enterprise-scale systems across multiple layers and communicating resolutions effectively to technical and non-technical users.

• Able to translate and integrate business requirements within a defined scope of complexity.

• Keen to document and expand on the group’s established development guidelines, best practices, and system architecture using industry standard methodologies.

• Actively identifies technical and performance improvements with a view to integrating design patterns, new technologies and bleeding-edge engineering practices.

• Leading by example in the integration of Enterprise-wide agile practices and new ways of working across the group.

Key Technical Skills:

• Proficient in Transact SQL (T-SQL), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) & SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Knowledge of the inner working of SQL Server is an advantage.

• Ownership of reviewing code implemented by the team to ensure it is robust, testable, and maintainable.

• Thorough understanding of developing and deploying to a Route-to-Live and Production environments with a DevOps mindset.

• Advanced skill in in debugging and performance tuning with understanding of extended events, DMVs execution plans, database statistics etc.

• Expertise in using GIT as Source Control Management tool.

• Table/index design and Query Optimisation experience.

• Data Modelling, Data warehousing SSAS Cube design experience beneficial.

• Experience of Business Intelligence Markup Language (BIML) beneficial.

• Knowledge of SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), Master Data Services (MDS) and Power BI is beneficial.

• Experienced in writing and debugging C# code in SSIS Script components.

• Well versed using GIT as Source Control Management tool.

• Experience of Business Intelligence Markup Language (BIML) beneficial.

• Able to work to tight deadlines and have a head to work under pressure.

Required:

• 10+ years in working in an Enterprise environment (Financial organisation preferred).

• Batchelors degree or equivalent in a STEM discipline, computer science preferred.

• Good oral and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Architect And Design Sql Server Solutions For Product And Project Delivery, Guiding The Team In Developing Robust And Scalable Applications.

2. Serve As A Subject Matter Expert (Sme) In Sql Server, Providing Technical Guidance And Troubleshooting Expertise To Support Complex Database-Related Issues.

3. Research And Adopt New Technologies Relevant To Sql Server, Ensuring Solutions Remain Current, Enhance Quality Standards, And Meet Evolving Client Requirements.

4. Train And Mentor Team Members On Sql Server Best Practices, Facilitating A Continuous Learning Environment To Build A Skilled Workforce And Mitigate Delivery Risks.

5. Collaborate With Stakeholders To Gather Specifications And Customize Sql Server Solutions That Address Specific Business Needs And Technical Requirements.

6. Review And Evaluate Project Deliverables For Compliance With Sql Server Standards, Ensuring High-Quality Outputs.

7. Recommend And Implement Initiatives For Client Value Creation, Leveraging Sql Server Capabilities To Drive Efficiency And Enhance Operational Effectiveness.

Skill Requirements

1. Expert Knowledge Of Sql Server Architecture, Database Design, And Performance Tuning.

2. Strong Understanding Of Sql Programming, Query Optimization, And Data Modeling.

3. Proficiency In Database Security, Backup Strategies, And Disaster Recovery Planning.

4. Excellent Problem-Solving Abilities And Experience In Troubleshooting Complex Database Issues.

5. Familiarity With Etl Processes And Tools, As Well As Reporting Solutions Related To Sql Server.
